Clay Butler
CORE PRINCIPLES
Urged by his desire and hard-work mentality, Clay A. Butler, after working for two different and well respected law firms, where he garnished valuable courtroom and transactional experience, decided to open The Butler Firm. A client focused law firm in the central Texas area.
Clay A. Butler enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps as an infantryman at the early age of 17. It was there that Clay began to learn the underlying principles which helped construct the foundation of the The Butler Firm into what it is today. Those principles are: Honesty; Organization; and Preparation.
Clay firmly believes that with these fundamental principles along with a strong work ethic and hard-earned experience, success and results will flow down to The Butler Firm’s clients.
EXPERIENCE
In law school, Clay graduated near the top of his class. He was a finalist in multiple mock trial competitions and was invited to join Phi Delta Phi, an internationally known legal honor society. Clay was also awarded a partial scholarship based on his legal brief writing skills.
After law school Clay joined a medium sized law firm outside of Ft. Worth, Texas. Acknowledging his legal knowledge and hard work attitude, the managing partner of the firm immediately gave Clay his own case load and client base. During this time Clay represented all forms of businesses and handled everything from general litigation to complex contract work.
Clay eventually moved back home to Austin, Texas where he started The Butler Firm. Currently, The Butler Firm represents numerous businesses and individuals throughout the central Texas region. Being the managing partner has allowed Clay to develop invaluable experience directly benefiting The Butler Firm’s current and future clients.
Besides being a lawyer, Clay Butler is an entrepreneur and business owner himself and he understands the needs and requirements to successfully develop and run a business. In
his downtime Clay enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife, Salina, and is looking forward to starting a family.
A CLIENT’S FIRST APPROACH
While maintaining and exemplifying solid principles is important, how you treat your clients is vital. Law firms are part of the service industry. They provide valuable services to their clients. Just like you, we understand that any company that provides sub-par customer service will upset and eventually lose their client base.
At The Butler Firm we treat each and every client as a top priority client. If because of time constraints we cannot do so, we will either hire more staff to continue this philosophy or turn down the client. It is that important to us. Accounts receivable at The Butler Firm will always come second place to our client’s first approach.
Rand E. Zumwalt

Rand heads the bankruptcy department at The Butler Firm. Prior to joining The Butler Firm, he managed the bankruptcy section at Brown, McHam & Associates, P.C. He has extensive knowledge and experience handling bankruptcy cases and enjoys finding creative ways to obtain debt relief for consumers and businesses.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Rand moved to Austin in the late-nineties to attend the University of Texas at Austin. While in college, Rand met his wife and developed a love of Austin that would stay with him for the remainder of his life. After acquiring a bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Business Administration, Rand enrolled in St. Mary’s University School of Law. While in law school, Rand focused his coursework on bankruptcy law, business law, and estate planning.
After passing the bar exam, Rand began practicing law and assisting clients with their estate planning and general business counsel needs before joining with Patricia Brown & Associates, P.C. to spearhead the firm’s bankruptcy practice. Now, Rand assists both consumer and business clients with obtaining debt relief through the bankruptcy process and other channels. Drawing on his prior experience, Rand also routinely helps clients with their estate planning and probate needs. In these tough economic times, Rand understands the importance of not only getting out from under stifling debt but also shielding and protecting wealth for future generations.
Rand and his wife have recently welcomed their first child into the world and are excited about raising her in Austin, Texas. When Rand is not practicing law, he can be found running the Town Lake loop and hiking the ample trails surrounding the Austin area.
